BlackBerry 9980 Spotted in China: Fake or No Fake?:

This BlackBerry popped up a few days ago on a Chinese web site, and it’s supposed to be the new BlackBerry 9980. I have to admit that the design is somewhat intriguing, but if it really looks like this, will it sell?

The phone has a lot of unusually sharp angles and comes from China, so there are no guarantees. It could definitely be a fake (especially considering it’s got the cryptic word ‘PROCEEDING’ engraved on the top).

The phone was even disassembled to check out what makes it tick, but I’m still a bit doubtful about its authenticity.

It’s definitely a departure from what BlackBerry smartphones are known for. It’s true that this could simply be a fake, or another device transplanted into a new case (though that looks unlikely from the interior photos).

Amidst all of the hoopla of RIM’s financial problems, I wonder if this phone will even sell. Especially if you can choose between the upcoming iPhone 5 and this one. Only time will tell.
